From OLD JOE's 2016 Autumn/Winter collection, this is the Fine Melton Double Officer Coat. Inspired by the American military officer coats of World War I, it's one of the brand's masterpieces.
It uses fine melton woven from single 10-count yarn using New Zealand-sourced super 100's wool. It achieves a luster and feel that's on a different level from typical melton, and is characterized by a cashmere-like smoothness.
The biggest appeal is the detachable collar system. It's a unique 2-way design that can also be worn as a band collar coat by removing the collar. The band collar details are inspired by WW1-era tunics, featuring hooks and a tab.
While it has a double-breasted, orthodox military design, it features a modern pattern with room around the arms. It's a calculated silhouette that can be worn over lighter outerwear like a denim jacket.
With the delicacy of the material, which has been carefully selected from the raw material stage, and the careful sewing techniques unique to Japan, this is a masterpiece coat that modernizes the appeal of vintage military wear.
